A high-level delegation led by the FM of Eritrea Hon. Osman Saleh on Monday arrived Hargeisa, the capital city of the Republic of Somaliland.

The VP of Somaliland Hon. Abdirahman Zeilie, the FM of Somaliland Hon. Faraton and the Finance Minister Dr Saad Ali Shire received the delegation at Egal International Airport.

Following the historic visit, the incumbent president of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi received the Eritrean delegation to the Presidential Palace.

The two sides discussed issues pertaining the bilateral ties between the two countries. President Bihi said, “We discussed issues pertaining bilateral ties, regional economic integration, security and political dynamics of the Horn of Africa. We agreed to share a common history and brotherly bond.”

Yemane Gebreab, President’s right-hand man, also pointed out their objective to coming to Somaliland “Our objective of this first-ever Eritrean Government delegation visit to Hargeisa is to begin engagement with Somaliland and to buttress the quest for the promotion of regional peace. We will have numerous meetings with the actors during the three-day working visit aimed at parceling the ongoing concerted efforts to enhance regional peace.

It is the first time in more than two decades that a top level delegation visits the country since the establishment of the Republic of Somaliland.
